February 2025 – WAAM3D

WAAM3D is a spin out company from Cranfield University. It was set up to provide a supply chain for Wire Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) technology developed through numerous major research programmes, often with industry partners from a wide range of sectors, since 2006. WAAM3D and Cranfield continue to work closely together through an integrated technology programme, providing the latest innovations and technology as rapidly as possible to customers and users.

Operations commenced at its site in Milton Keynes in January 2020 with the company having now grown to more than 30 employees. WAAM3D provides a complete technology solution for WAAM users. This includes standalone and bespoke systems with a range of processes, path planning and control software, AM quality wires and full customer support.

Systems include 2 large -scale robotic systems, one with plasma transferred arc for highest quality possible, one with our new patented CWGMA process for very high deposition rates possible, up to 15kg/hr. Our MiniWAAM is especially suitable for materials studies, enabling multi-materials, graded structures and alloy development. Support for customers ranges from comprehensive training, specific or batch part manufacturing, through to full application development in partnership with users.
